Vale George Parry

Co-founder of the Auburn District Cricket Club in the Sydney Shires competition and widely regarded club figure, George Parry, has passed away at age 91.


Such was his regard in the Sydney Shires cricket community Mona Park No. 1 Oval in Auburn was named George Parry Oval in March 2007. He was inducted as a Legend of Shires Cricket in 2003.


For more than 40 years, Mr Parry contributed enormously to Auburn District Cricket Club as a player, team captain and administrator.


He captained Auburn to two consecutive Shires First Grade Premierships in 1961/62 and 1962/63, playing 205 matches for the club and was viewed by many as one of the best all-rounders to have ever played Shires Cricket..


Mr Parry scored 6,368 runs averaging 30.18, claimed 613 wickets at 12 and took 150 catches.


He went to Parramatta Boys High School, where he was captain of the school 1st X cricket team, which had a promising leg spin bowler in the team called Richie Benaud.


Cricket NSW, the SCA and the Sydney Shires competition passes on their condolences to the Parry family.
