Round 2: Auburn and Burwood Top of the Ladder

Auburn CC and Burwood Briars CC are both on top of the First Grade Ladder in the McDonald's Sydney Shires Cricket Competition after Round 2.

 

After the severe wet weather stopped any play the previous week, Round 2 was amended to a Limited Overs (50 over) fixture. Auburn CC and Burwood Briars CC both recorded bonus point victories to finished Round 2 joint leaders of the First Grade Competitions.

 

Burwood completed a dominant bonus point victory against Balmain-South Sydney at Rothwell Park. After batting first the Briars posted an imposing 274 off their 50 overs with skipper Andrew Jalalaty (84no) and Akarshan Arora (51) the main contributors. BSS were no match as they were dismissed for only 64 with Arora capping off a fantastic all-round performance with figures of 5-11 off 7 his 7 overs.

 

Auburn received the full seven points available after a bonus point victory against North West Sydney at Bruce Purser Oval. Auburn were in control early after dismissing NWS for 94 with Tom Wood (4-23) and skipper Ardil Domingo (3-12) the chief destroyers. Auburn's Waleed Jalil (55 off 38 balls) made lightweight of the run chase with The Eagles passing the total off just 15.1 overs with the loss of only one wicket.

 

In 2nd Grade, Warringah's Luke Parkinson (5-27) was the star performer in his side's thrilling one wicket win against Georges River. The Men In Green chased down Georges Rivers total of 170 off the second last ball of the match with only one wicket in hand. Warringah's win saw them remain joint leaders of the 2nd Grade Competition along with Auburn and Lindfield.

 

In 3rd Grade, Burwoods Damian Price finished with the astonishing figures of 7-29 as his side recorded a bonus point victory against Balmain-Sth Sydney while in 4th Grade, Roseville's Brent Tansley saw his team home against Lindfield leading his side's run chase with a superb knock of 100 not out.
