The Frank Gray Shield season got under way on Sunday the 18th November with Warringah starting their defence of last season’s Premiership off in good fashion with a victory over Lindfield at Lindfield Oval. A great team performance from Warringah’s bowling unit saw the Men in Green dismiss Lindfield for 102. All of Warringah’s bowlers chipped in with 5 of their bowlers taking 2 wickets. Warringah’s run chase was never in trouble as they cruised to victory four wickets down.

Epping and Lane Cove played out a final over thriller in their opening round match at Tantallon Oval. Batting first Epping posted 203 thanks to Siddhanth Shekhar’s 54. In response Lane Cove looked on track to chase down the runs with opener Freddie Boys bringing up his 2nd century in consecutive days with a score of 100 off 113 balls. However a late order collapse saw Lane Cove fall 2 runs short finishing on 8/201 off their 50 overs. Epping’s Chris Steffan the best of the bowlers with 4/31.

Burwood also got their campaign off to a good start with a win over Strathfield at Rothwell Park. Strathfield won the toss and batted first. Strathfield lost wickets consistently throughout their innings finishing with 157 off 41.5 overs. Opener Azmi Himel was the best of the batsmen with 46 while Burwood skipper Christopher Iaquinto was the best of the bowlers with 4/33. Burwood were able to chase the runs in the 43rd over with the loss of 7 wickets with Iaquinto again leading from the front to complete a good all-round match with 45.
