The Fourth Round of Frank Gray Shield took place on Sunday the 15th of December as teams looked to pick up important points as the competition reached its half way mark. Balmain South Sydney recorded its first win of the competition with a 3-wicket victory over Strathfield in a Thunder Conference battle at Airey Park. Batting first, Strathfield looked set for a mammoth total when Tristen Blackledge combined with Captain Dane Twining for a 178 run third wicket partnership. Twining made 69 while Blackledge reached his century before being dismissed for 101. Balmain South Sydney’s Rohith Pulla helped restrict Strathfield to a chase able total taking 5/31 off his 10 overs. In reply, Balmain-Souths got off to a flyer thanks to their captain Rishi Patel who made 102 opening the batting. Patel’s innings included 16 fours and 3 sixers however wickets fell quickly once he departed with Balmain-Souths falling to 6/140. Saief Hoque (32) then was joined by Lovish Sethi for an 80-run partnership to steady the ship. Sethi was able to guide his team home finishing unbeaten on 56 as his side passed their total 7wickets down with 4.1 overs to spare.
In the other Thunder Conference matches, Mt Pritchard Southern Districts moved into second position in the conference with a victory over Burwood Briars at Greenway Park 1. Mounties Brayden Wilson lead the way with the bat with 68 to help his team to 178 before Kunwardeep Brar (4/12) and Wilson (3/14) combined to dismiss the Briars for 129. North West Sydney joined Mounties on 13 competition points with a victory over Auburn at Bruce Purser Oval. Batting first Shaun Cleasby made 112 off just 67 balls for the home side as they posted 8/300 of their 50 overs before the wickets were shared as Auburn were dismissed for 242.
In the Sixers Conference, Warringah extended their lead at the top of the Conference Ladder with a good win over Lane Cove. Warringah batting first made 9/226 off their 50 overs with Abhijeet Virdi (66), Daniel Ward (46) and William Greenland (43) all amongst the runs. Lane Cove fell short, only being able to make 9/162 with Kiran Dindayal making an unbeaten 53. Roseville meanwhile suffered their first defeat of the competition, going down to Lindfield at Lindfield Oval. Roseville were dismissed for just 137 with Brad Small and Joshua Trewin both taking three wickets. Lindfield opener Samuel Tapner then made easy work of the chase scoring an unbeaten 84 as Lindfield recorded an 8-wicket victory. Epping’s Billy McCarthy had a good all-round game helping his team to a comfortable victory over Macquarie University with figures of 5/5 with the ball and an unbeaten 35 as Epping defeated Macquarie Uni by 6-wickets.
