Warringah were crowned the Sydney Shires Fourth Grade Premiers after defeating Burwood in the Grand Final at Rothwell Park to claim the Harry Culbert Cup.
Warringah won the toss and elected to bat and their opener Akshay Narwal got them off to a flyer scoring 42 off 37 deliveries before being dismissed. A couple of quick wickets followed to have the score at 3/57 before Paul Chapman and Captain Kevin Davies combined for a 65 run partnership. Davies was dismissed for 51 before Chapman was joined by Charlie Wilson (23) for a 58 run 6th wicket partnership. Chapman was eventually dismissed for 51 off 180 deliveries and some handy lower order runs from the Warringah tail was able to move the score to 250 before the Men in Green were dismissed.
Burwood Briars got off to a solid start with Shreyas Patel scoring 44 and Saurab Ganguly making 34. However a middle order collapse sparked by Warringah opening bowler Joshua Lawson saw Burwood slump to 6/87 then 8/164 still 86 runs behind. James Threlkeld and Greg Metcalfe combined for the 9th wicket partnership and slowly went about reducing the deficit. Threlkeld batted brilliantly making 73 to claw his team closer to victory before he was dismissed to end the 72 run partnership. With Burwood now 9/236 they had a hope of victory however they fell 5 runs short, dismissed for 245 with Metcalfe not out with 22. Lawson was the best of the Warringah bowlers finishing with match winning figures of 5/45 off 17 overs. Lawson was named player of the final.
Captain Kevin Davies was presented the Harry Culbert Cup on behalf of his team with Warringah claiming their 3rd Fourth Grade Premiership and their first since 1996/97.
